The program reinvests revenue from grants, charitable giving, and individual entrepreneurship to create meaningful work opportunities.
Historically, The Free African Society emerged in the late 1700s as part of the rise in civic organizing following United States' independence in the Revolutionary War. It was also directly related to its leaders' desires to create a separate group to meet African-American needs; they rejected the second-class status they were forced into at their white-dominated, former Methodist church. The Free African Society was designed as a mutual aid society to help support African Americans; especially the sick, jobless, orphaned and widowed.

As stated above, The Feeding EnterpriZe is one of seven work sectors of the YouthUSA social enterprise program. The sponsor’s intent is to identify local needs and qualify, certify and sustain service providers to meet needs. Feeding is critical for our families and communities. We must begin to identify farms, co-ops, distribution centers, and diverse means of acquiring food. This need can be addressed through the faith community. Today, I spent $70 on just a few items, where most were over $3.00 each. A family of 4 or more is hard-pressed in this economy to put food on the table. How are we demonstrating "collective work and responsibility" to meet this need and identify providers?
ReplyDeleteEventually, our philanthropic organizations, churches and government agencies must recognize that hunger is a 365 day a year issue that cannot be resolved by just feeding between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We must begin to teach people how to fish instead of just feeding them for a few days.
